• Update #2: Friends, I could use some support here.  I like to think that I treat others as I would like to be treated, so I wrote privately to the President/Owner of Joyful Rescues, Joye Turock, twice, asking her to contact me. The first received no response at all.  For the second, she posted the entire email on my old Facebook business page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Financial-Aid-Solutions/136356046443471 .  I'll post it below, if you're interested.  It was meant to be private, but she posted it publicly, so...  I generally like to avoid drama, but I'm feeling particularly un-zen-like at the moment.  Thoughts?

  • I "applaud" you immensely Tara ! Decisions can be reversed ~ so I'm sending out
prayers ~ and I'm also sure that once Joyful Rescues realize the mistake that
they've made ~ all will end well ~ Much Love & Support for you and Bob

Glad you wrote them.  He's a cute puppy and for you all to denied seems odd.  As
you've stated your pets are your family.  I sincerely hope they change their minds unless its false advertising on their part.  Hope not.  Best wishes Tara!

An inexperienced kid gets a pit? Maybe joyful rescues felt you were overqualified.
That was a very well written letter, and much kinder than what I would have written. Best wishes for an awesome and lucky animal to join your family!

Wow...they are ridiculous! You said she responded to your second email? I didn't see it....I'm curious....we're going through the same thing...we wanted to take our Kodie to doggy day care to socialize with other dogs since he just list his big sister....he was denied!!! So I known how you feel, and we are fighting it too.  Thoughts are with you.

Tara I think this sucks! I have worked with rescue for over 14 yrs.  I don't see any reason why they shouldn't give you a reason . That seems a given. Unfortunately some people in rescue have a god complex. Go to a local shelter where you can save a life. It will make the kids feel better and you will save one if the much needed animals from a fairly certain death. The puppy appears to be a shepherd and I have never seen a shortage of them in shelters. Both mine are.

At the moment, I vote post your letter on the group's Facebook page. Perhaps you should wait till tomorrow morning to do so that way you will have slept on the decision. Perhaps she didn't realize what she was doing since her page has rather old posts on it. I'm so sorry  that this situation is occurring for you and your family.

Wow....from the reviews on the site Wendi posted, this place needs to be shut down!!!

You attempted to resolve this at a low level and they are not being responsive. If
you wait a month to have the board read your email (which sounds like complete
BS), these animals may be adopted by another family who may not be as loving as
yours. Too often people are not pressed to be accountable for their actions. pushing this issue is the right thing to do for your kids, the community and most importantly for the homeless animals who do not have a voice. I say go for it!  Sorry for your pain...you are one of the most loving pet owners that I know.  Good luck!

If people were to comment on the post she posted would she see it or would it only show on your page?

Tara, i think you should call the local news channel.
  • I agree with Lisa!!!!!
  • Tara, a friend of mine there in Rochester offered to help you find the right pet.  I
think she volunteers at a different adoption agency.  As an SPCA volunteer, after reading the facility reviews for this place, I would also recommend you report the facility to local SPCA/ animal control/ law enforcement.  Sounds like a hoarding situation.

  • I agree with Tia . . . sounds like a god (or some other) complex.  Also, they do not know how to read people or situations. You and your family would make the best of owners for this pup!

If you are going to deny an application don't be COWARDS, have the guts to tell the
person why! We are going to be adopting fairly soon and I know who not to go to
    now.

Tara, I read some of the reviews and it sounds as if the rescue owners are sick and possibly animal horders!  I think Lisa is right, the news needs to be involved!

We got turned down for a kitten a number of years ago. Totally understand where u r
    coming from. Crazy!
  • This is so SAD!!! Prayers to you all..
